The Uttar Pradesh government has officially approved the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) scheme for the third and fourth phases of the Noida International Airport project in Jewar. This landmark decision marks a major step forward in expanding the airport into one of the country’s largest aviation hubs, while also ensuring fair compensation and housing for thousands of affected families.
Expansion and Land Acquisition
The approved plan paves the way for acquiring 1,857 hectares across 14 villages, directly impacting around 16,000 families. Following two public hearings held in July, the final number of affected families was revised from 17,945 to 15,920, based on local feedback and updates to the draft proposal.
Under the new scheme, landowners will receive Rs 4,300 per square metre—a 40% increase from previous rates. The district administration will now begin issuing formal notices for land and home acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.
Resettlement and Rehabilitation Plan
The government has assured that no family will be displaced until they are allotted a residential plot and a newly built home in a resettlement colony. For this purpose, 438 hectares across six villages—Mangroli, Neemka Shahjahanpur, Alavalpur, Sadullapur, Ahmadpur Chauroli, and Jewar Banger—have been earmarked for setting up new residential colonies.
The process will begin with social impact assessments, followed by public notifications, ensuring that the relocation is both transparent and humane. Officials have also confirmed that the entire rehabilitation process will be completed within two years.
Chief Minister’s Inspection and Project Readiness
The decision follows Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent inspection of the airport site. During his visit, he reviewed the domestic terminal, security infrastructure, and traffic management systems, both from the air and on the ground. The CM emphasized timely completion, high-quality construction, and smooth coordination among all stakeholders to ensure a world-class passenger experience.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the project’s technical progress, including terminal building readiness and DGCA-supervised check flights. While the Union Civil Aviation Minister had initially announced an October 30 inauguration, the operational launch is now expected by mid-December 2025, with preparations to be completed by November 15.
India’s Largest Greenfield Airport in the Making
Once fully operational, the Noida International Airport will rank among the world’s largest greenfield airports, spanning 11,750 acres. It will feature five runways and a projected capacity of 300 million passengers annually.
In the first phase, the airport will operate with a single runway, handling 12 million passengers and 150 flights daily. As traffic grows, additional phases will expand capacity, with agreements already signed with several major airlines.
To date, about 6,700 acres have been acquired, and an additional 5,100 acres will be procured soon. The total land acquisition cost is estimated at Rs 5,000 crore, while construction costs stand at approximately Rs 7,000 crore.
The Noida International Airport is set to transform India’s aviation landscape, driving regional economic growth and improving connectivity. With a fair and structured resettlement process, the project aims to balance infrastructure expansion with social responsibility—creating a model for sustainable development in India’s future megaprojects.
